The Yazoo Ramblers "Three-Take" Challenge
Finding the Groove: How We Gamified Our June 12 Practice Session
At Cal Carter’s Yazoo Ramblers Channel, we have a "gratitude attitude" toward the learning process. On June 12, 2026, we decided to put ourselves to the test by gamifying our practice. We took a brand-new list of songs—most of which the band had never played—and followed a strict three-step "ramble":
The First Take: The "Rough Draft." Just finding the map of the song and getting through it.
The Second Take: The "Rhythm Lock." Syncing up the heartbeat of the track together.
The Third Take: The "Performance." Stepping into the song with soul and confidence.
We’ve finally reached a milestone where our instrument levels are locked in, and now we’re tackling the next frontier: the microphones. This session was about discovering our voices and overcoming the vulnerability of singing and playing in front of others. We’re sharing this with you exactly as it happened—flaws, experiments, and triumphs included.
Thank you for being part of our community and supporting us as we grow. Hope you enjoy the music!
