"Hang On Sloopy" (originally "My Girl Sloopy") is a 1964 song written by Wes Farrell and Bert Russell. The Vibrations were the first to record it that year. Here is my cover of it with the Yazoo Ramblers, which I posted to the channel on June 30, 2026.
The McCoys' version went to No. 1 in 1965. The song is tied to Ohio State University and is Ohio's official rock song, and it became standard fare for garage bands.
Why I picked it
Bob Young's first lead vocal, and it earns a big round of applause.
